How you can make rooms appear larger than actual size

There are many different way you can optimize your house’s selling potential through simple tricks.  One of these tricks to consider trying is making each room in your house look as large as possible.  There are simple ways you can accomplish this illusion that I will share with you.

The first way you can open up a room is to add art into another room or on a distant wall.  This will attract the attention to a further distance, which enlarges the supposed depth of vision.  Adding structural changes, like French doors or decorative windows, can also have the same effect.  This will allure the gaze, and focus on the surrounding landscape instead of the walls in the space. Also, a good thing to remember is clutter is your enemy when trying to sell your home.  Try to keep impersonal objects with clean lines when showing a room.

Windows are another way to make a room look much larger than it is.  The focus will be drawn outside and, if paired with nice   landscaping, will linger there.  This will also add more light into the room, which will make it more look more inviting.

Incorporating pleasant things that will engage as many of the senses as probable can make a room feel bigger.  Engage the sense of smell by bringing in fresh flowers, or getting a nice air freshener.  If weather permits, open windows or doors so a breeze can freely enter the room.  Use surfaces that are smooth or shiny that will catch the eye, and throw on some soothing music.

An interesting way to visually increase the size of a room is to use large flooring pieces.  Studies have shown the larger the tile or shape on the floor, the greater the room will appear.  On top of that, putting in the tile diagonally will add even more to the effect.

The last suggestion for making a room look bigger is, to use a hallway to your advantage.  If you have two rooms that are attached by a hallway, try adding a daring piece of art there or painting the far wall. This will take attention out of a small room, and will also incorporate the usually ignored hallway.

We hope these suggestions on how to make your rooms enormous will help you as you continue on your way to selling your home! If you need any further help or advice, call the Besst team!
